Buzz Cason
- Singer/Songwriter/Producer/Publisher/American Treasure

Singer. Songwriter. Musician. Producer. Publisher. American Treasure.

For six decades, Buzz Cason has brought timeless and adored songs into the musical lexicon, onstage, in the studio, and behind the scenes. A pivotal force in Country Music, Americana, Rockabilly, and Rock ‘N’ Roll, a member of the Rockabilly Hall Of Fame, and Nashville Songwriters Hall Of Fame nominee; Cason’s songwriting has inspired artists of all genres, and he continues to thrive with the release of his latest album, Troubadour Heart (Plowboy Records).

Troubadour Heart, his 12th album to date, and his fifth Americana/Roots album, was released on February 4, 2014. Saluting the songwriter spirit, Buzz traverses a myriad of genres and moods, from the nimble acoustic blues of “Midnight Sun” to bar-soaked rockers like “The Call,” to the emotive “When I Get To California.” Troubadour Heart features contributions from 60s’ soul hit writer Dan Penn (“I’m Your Puppet,” “Do Right Woman,” “Dark End Of The Street”), Anthony Crawford (whose songs have been recorded by Kenny Rogers, and toured with Neil Young, Dwight Yoakam, and Steven Winwood), and saxophist Bobby Keys, (The Rolling Stones, The Who, and Eric Clapton).

Since his early days in the music business, it’s been quite a ride for Buzz. He has written songs that are beloved the world over. Artists as diverse as The Beatles, Pearl Jam, and Marshall Crenshaw have covered “Soldier of Love,” which was co-written with Tony Moon and originally recorded by Arthur Alexander in 1962. “Everlasting Love,” a major hit in 13 countries, was co-written with Mac Gayden, and has been interpreted by Robert Knight, Gloria Estefan, U2, Carl Carlton, and as a duet with Rachel Sweet and Rex Smith. Cason has also written songs recorded by Jan & Dean, The Oak Ridge Boys, Mel Tillis, Martina McBride, Alan Jackson, and many others.

Additionally, Buzz has contributed background vocals on Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, Kenny Rogers, Kris Kristofferson, John Denver, and George Jones recordings. He also formed Nashville’s first Rock ‘N’ Roll band, The Casuals, in 1956, who would eventually become Brenda Lee’s backing band. He was even the voice of Alvin on The Chipmunks records!

Off the stage, Buzz made his mark in production and publishing. In the 60s’, he produced The Crickets (Buddy Holly’s backing band) with then-session musician Leon Russell. This led to his ventures in music publishing, first with Rising Sons publishing/recording company, with songwriter Bobby Russell and then-president of Monument Records Fred Foster; The Russell-Cason Music publishing company with Bobby Russell in 1967; Let There Be Music (publisher of approximately 50 of Jimmy Buffett’s early songs), Angel Wing Music (Kenny Rogers’ mega-hit “She Believes In Me,” written by Steve Gibb --achieved sales of over 20 million units and a Grammy “Song Of The Year” nomination), and, most recently, Buzz Cason Publications.

Cason founded the two-studio recording facility Creative Workshop in 1970, where artists such as Dolly Parton, Merle Haggard, The Judds, The Doobie Brothers, and Emmylou Harris have recorded. In 2004, he released his autobiography Everlasting Love: Living The Rock ‘N’ Roll Dream

Buzz Cason has performed around the world, setting stages alight at such esteemed venues as The Royal Albert Hall in London, Japan’s famed Nippon Budokan, The Hollywood Bowl, The Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall Of Fame, and the County Music And Musicians Hall Of Fame. He continues to play at festivals, clubs, and universities nationwide.

He recently participated in the Plowboy Records SXSW Showcase at the Saxon Pub in Austin, TX on March 15, and will also perform select dates across the US, both solo and with his band The Love Notes (see dates below).
